In October 2023, a youth justice worker was assaulted at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre in Victoria. The Department of Justice and Community Safety was subsequently charged by WorkSafe Victoria with failing to provide and maintain a safe working environment. This case demonstrates that regulators are actively holding employers accountable for failing to protect staff.
